Grassley Statement on Admin’s Last-Minute Summertime E15 Waiver

April 28, 2023

WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), longtime advocate for the benefits of renewable fuels, released the following comment after the Biden Administration’s reported decision to issue an emergency waiver allowing summertime sales of higher blend ethanol fuels.

“I’m glad the administration is today doing what I have been requesting. There’s no reason not to take advantage of higher blend ethanol, especially when prices are rising at the pump once again. It’s better for the environment, supports tens of thousands of jobs including on family farms, and reduces prices for consumers.”

Grassley recently pressed President Biden to allow summer E-15 sales in 2023. The administration granted waivers to allow the higher ethanol blend to be sold during the 2022 and 2024 summer driving months, but had offered excuses for not granting a waiver for 2023 until today, right before the summer driving season begins on May 1 when sales of E-15 would have had to cease for most drivers.
