Rep. Watson Coleman Joins the Congressional Sustainable Investment Caucus

May 10, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) joined the Congressional Sustainable Investment Caucus, which aims to persuade investors and asset managers to consider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in their investment decisions.

Globally, the value of assets engaged in sustainable investing has grown rapidly and is expected to increase in 2025. As Americans, we have a duty to better understand sustainable investing and create policies that provide protections and federally guaranteed information on whether or not a given investment is truly sustainable.

“I am excited to join Reps. Sean Casten (IL-6) and Juan Vargas (CA-52) and the Congressional Sustainability Investment Caucus to promote sustainable investments,” said Congresswoman Watson Coleman (NJ-12). “Investing ethically in strategies for the environmental good will provide long-term environmental value. That with the combination of traditional investment approaches will allow investors to make better decisions. We must try to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

“A clean environment is essential to our overall well-being which is why I've introduced several bills that are crucial steps towards shaping the nation’s climate agenda. Bills like the SHADE Act which combats the enormous heat disparities in our cities in which low-income neighborhoods are as much as 12 degrees warmer than wealthy neighborhoods within the same city.

“I also introduced bills like the Stay Cool Act, which prepares our communities to deal with extreme heat and keep society's most vulnerable individuals safe as our planet warms.

“Another bill I’ve passed is the Safer Pipelines Act which would reform the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s outdated approval process that has failed to fully evaluate or consider duplicate, competing, or contiguous pipelines and their impact on local environments.

“It is our solemn responsibility to leave our children and grandchildren a clean and healthy planet, and I will continue to raise my voice alongside yours against any and all threats to our environment.

I applaud Reps. Sean Casten (IL-6) and Juan Vargas (CA-52) for taking the necessary steps forward to a healthier, sustainable future.”
